AM I A LAWYER ?
The office of that fat big cat lawyer looks like a crowded warehouse. That sh** hole is in London's most danagerous area. Lies between two tube stations in the northern and victoria lines. The firm's day's turnover is twice the turnover of a typical city law firm.
Kalai Poonaban NAGesan (name disguised) is a dark skinned lawyer has married his secretary (who is half his age) recently. The actual principal lawyer of the firm is his concubine Suganthila. Suganthila is married with two daughters from her previous marriage, 1 son from her earlier partner and a daughter from Mr Nagesan. She is now again pregnant and was expecting Nagesan's his known child .
Mr Nagesan always wanted him to be referred as a Professor. He was known in the comminity as Prof. Nagesan. He was a power thirst who would knock half the cost if his fee account from a client, if he is referred by the client as Prof. Nagesan.
Mr Nagesan always thninks of his past and was a strong man with ambitions. Although he has raised to such a height within a short span of time, he strongly believed that there are miles to go and millions to be earned.
Memories of the past
Mr Nagesan's father was a contractor back home. His father's influence was even to such a height to the former ministers, now ministers and businessmen. He was a snake under the grass. A pimp in the name of contractor. In Anuradhapura (place is changed), even a small child knows of his business. Although Mr Poonaban was a school drop out was fluent in three of the nation's lanaguage.
Mr Poonaban without realising the need for education, educated all his children. Mr Poonaban even sent his daughter from his earlier marriage to a convent in Ooty (in Tamil Nadu) and the son from the second marriage was educated in a convent in Kodaikanal. Poonaban was generous with his workers and the workers were very generous with their clients and Poonaban's business flourieshed well. Poonaban was also very kind to his wives and mistresses and made sure that they are always apart.
Poonaban's daughter was married to MP's son when she was about to enter the college. Poonaban had no choice but to provide his daughter to the MP's drug addicted son to save his skin. Poonaban has provided his selling skills to the MP and his son before. Although Poonaban's daughter was intelligent, she was very well aware of her father's business and the need of her life for the business. Although she resisted initially, Poonaban applied his negotiatin skills to persuade his daughter to marry the MP's son. MP's son and Poonaban's daughter are in open marriage life style.Following this Poonaban's business flourished well. His elder son was kicked out of the school becuase of his bad behaviour with the teachers anf fellow students. Poonaban's money kept him in the school despite his son's poor performing academic records. There was a point where Poonaban's money did not win and Poonaban's son came back to Sri Lanka.
Poonaban's business expanded as the cluster bombs that were dropped by the SLAF in the recent battle. Son was not performing better at school, so his elder son was brought into his well established business. Poonaban now owns well established bus companies, hotels. restaurants and lodges. Poonaban's wealth would have multiplied by atleast 250,000 the moment his auditor's finishes their valuations.
Nagesan was not offered a decent schooling by Poonaban. Poonaban's worker turned out to be 'the roast'for Poonaban during his heavy drinking sessions with his clients and thus Ravindran, Janarthanan, Nagesan, Manikalai & Megalai were born.
Poonaban's conscious always bothered before his moves to the ladies of his eldest dauther's age. Poonaban would kill his conscious and made himself contented. Poonaban however made sure that his wives, concubines and mistresses were happy and aimed to treat them all equally and fairly. Nagesan was aware that his mother does not fall within any of the above categories. Nagesan's mother herself doubted whether Poonaban was the father of Nagesan. Although Nagesan's mother always troubled Poonaban to provide her with money, the money was not enough to feed all the children and to satisfy the drug and drinking addition of Nagesan's mother Soolayi.
Nagesan worked hard thorugh his childhood. Performed well in academics and sports. Did his law degree and worked for a Lawyer in Colombo (Singe & Asociates) -making coffee for the lawyer's clients and the lawyers. Found his parents were of no use to him and joined as a Marketing agent for a firm in Colombo for the weekend. He managed to build his reputation as a lawyer after coming to London without qualifying with the professional qualification to practice as a Solicitor or Barrister. A qualified sinhalese solicitor (Paja & Co) employd Nagesan due to his fluency in Tamil and Sinhalese. Nagesan who was brilliant and intelligent came to know that Suganthila who was a junior practising lawyer at Singe & Co was now a qualified Solicitor in London. He approached her and luckily she had fell out with her husband due to differences at that time.
Nagesan made the move and started the firm in Sugnthila's name. Diverted his clients from Paja & Co. The firm developed over a period of time.
Nagesan was early at the office today. Money made him not to sleep or the awaiting money made him sleep less. He was well early before his normal arrival time. Looked at the mirror while the kettle was on.
Nagesan was sure that he was the son of Poonaban.
MORAL
Poonaban was a broker who made his living at the expense of his workers. Nagesan realised that he is the same but in the legal field. Cheating clients and making the money without any knowledge on his part. Poonaban made his money persuading clients and he was doing the same. Poonaban had no knowledge and he is having it either. Also Poonaban life style living in an open marraige was the same with him. He shouted loudly "I am not a bas*** , I have inherited the qualities of my father". He smirked I am a lawyer.
